Ed Pupa, Chief Executive Officer
Mr. Pupa brings over 25 years of electronic design automation (EDA) technology and software experience to his position as Chief Executive Officer for DesignAdvance. Prior to joining DesignAdvance in August 2006, Pupa held President and CEO positions at EndoPassives, Inc. and Kyma Technologies, Inc. He has held senior positions ranging from Director of Business Development to Vice President Worldwide Sales for several software and electronic design automation companies, including Cadence Design Systems, Integrated Silicon Systems, Inc. and Avant!
Throughout his career, Pupa has been a key player in assisting companies in exceeding their targeted revenue and sales growth by developing and implementing numerous successful strategic marketing and sales programs. Additionally, Pupa has extensive senior management experience in multiple facets of organization operations, particularly within startups, successful IPO's and public corporations.
Pupa holds a Bachelor of Science in both Marketing and Management from East Carolina University, and is on the Advisory Board of the East Carolina School of Business.
Jonathan Cagan, Co-Founder, Chief Technologist, Ph.D., P.E.
Dr. Cagan is a professor of mechanical engineering at Carnegie Mellon University, with appointments in the School of Design and Computer Science. His research, teaching, and consulting are in the area of design theory, methodology, automation, and practice, with over 50 archival journal publications. Dr. Cagan also co-authored the book Creating Breakthrough Products and co-edited the book Formal Engineering Design Synthesis. Dr. Cagan is a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and has served as the associate technical editor of the ASME Journal of Mechanical Design in the area of design theory and methodology. He also serves on the editorial boards of Research in Engineering Design; Artificial Intelligence for Engineering Design, Analysis and Manufacturing; Journal of Engineering Design; and Computer Aided Design. Dr. Cagan received his Bachelor of Science in 1983 and Master of Science in 1985 from the University of Rochester. He then earned his Ph.D. in 1990 from the University of California at Berkeley. All of his degrees are in Mechanical Engineering. Dr. Cagan is also a registered Professional Engineer.
Tony Ryan, Chief Operating and Financial Officer
Mr. Ryan has more than 12 years of experience in executive financial roles of public and private software companies. From 2004 - 2005, Mr. Ryan was the Chief Financial Officer of TimeSys Corporation, a leader in the drive for widespread adoption of Linux for embedded systems. From 1995 - 2004, Mr. Ryan was the Chief Financial Officer (appointed CFO in 1997) of Ansoft Corporation (NASDAQ:ANST), a leading developer of high-performance electronic design automation (EDA) software used in the design of printed circuit boards (PCBs), integrated circuit packaging, and integrated circuit design. Mr. Ryan helped take Ansoft from a private company with $6M in revenue to public company with a market capitalization of $150M and over $50M in revenue.
Mr. Ryan's responsibilities included global finance and administration, investor relations, mergers and acquisitions, SEC compliance and corporate governance. Mr. Ryan helped raise over $35M in two public offerings, managed a portfolio of over $20M in investments and secured a $20M multi-currency credit facility. Mr. Ryan was the main liaison to the investment community and regularly presented to investors. Prior to Ansoft, Mr. Ryan worked as a certified public accountant with KPMG LLP, an international accounting firm. While with KPMG, Mr. Ryan was the auditor-in-charge on several prominent public and private clients and was selected for an international rotation in Perth, Australia. Mr. Ryan is a certified public accountant and earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in accounting from San Diego State University.
